Marine Services
Specializing in bespoke luxury interiors for the discerning superyacht owner.
The genesis of RavenThorn Marine lies with our Designer Emeritus, Jon Block, who, at an early age, was inspired to become a yacht interior designer by summers he spent aboard his family’s series of ever-larger yachts on the Great Lakes. By age 9, Jon spent time, Tom Fexas-like, drawing designs of yacht interior layouts and cajoling his way onto every significant private yacht at the Catawba Island Club – arguably the largest collection of Bertram, Hatteras, Chris Craft and Burger motoryachts on the Great Lakes.
Winter family trips to Fort Lauderdale inevitably involved meals at Patricia Murphy’s iconic Candlelight Room with a post-dinner constitutional among the manicured gardens and the large yachts in the surrounding Bahia Mar yacht basin. By 16, his father routinely charged him with preparing the family’s 43’ Chris Craft for weekend usage, which required single-handedly piloting the boat from the slip, to the fuel dock and back through a tight marina.
His love of all things “marine” has only intensified with the emergence of the superyacht phenomenon over the past two decades. Jon introduced our Chief Designer, Malahki Thorn, to yachting aboard a 72’ Marquis cruising Banderas Bay, and a love affair with luxury yachting was born as the images bear witness. RavenThorn now routinely charters yachts along the Mexican Pacific coast, particularly Puerto Vallarta where the Bay of Banderas provides myriad cruising opportunities.
RavenThorn brings a uniquely residential ethos and ambiance to superyacht interior design. This bold approach represents a stark contrast to the commonly-used design axiom of perfectly symmetrical floor plans and furniture placement, identically-styled upholstered pieces, all adorned in various shades of beige. The mirror image of two facing sofas in a neutral plain fabric in every superyacht salon has become an unfortunately ubiquitous interior design motif.
RavenThorn serves an elite group of connoisseurs who prefer to live aboard their superyacht in the same manner as they live in their private residence. We create rich and sumptuous yacht interiors employing eclectic furnishings with exotic decorative details, luxurious fabrics, and fine period pieces. We reserve the beach club “vibe” for the beach club.
